    INCIDENT: RESCUE FROM TOWER CRANE

Emergency services effect descent of unwell crane driver

It has been reported (20th March) by the Aberdeen Evening Express that a crane operator has been rescued from a tower crane after being taken ill at a height of 100ft.

The rescue was triggered after the workman reported suffering severe chest pains whilst operating the crane at The Beeches Gate building site on Springfield Road, Aberdeen

The emergency call was made to the Scottish Ambulance Service at 10.40am on Tuesday and the ambulance crew called the fire brigade for assistance due to the height of the crane.

The man, believed to be in his forties, was brought down by firefighters and paramedics.

Phil Starrs, a contract worker at the site, said:

“The crane boy went up to his work as normal. All of a sudden he needed help and needed an ambulance. He was feeling a lot of pain in his chest and a bit of nausea as well.”

He is reported to have been “responsive throughout” but was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precaution.
