BUILDER AND HEALTH TRUST CHARGED OVER DEATH

Elderly patient crushed by falling fire door during refurb project

It has been reported that Trafford Magistrates Court is set to hear the prosecution of two parties following the death of an elderly dementia sufferer who died after she was crushed under a heavy fire door at a care home.

Irene Sharples, 92, was living at Alexian Brothers Care Centre in Moston when the door fell on her whilst renovation work was being carried out.

It is now reported that two organisations are to be prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive over her death.

The Healthcare Management Trust, which runs the home in St Mary’s Road, and building firm Rothwell Robinson, which was carrying out the work, are charged with failing to ensure the safety of Mrs Sharples.

She died just under four weeks after the incident, which happened on November 7, 2010.
