Death on major social housing group project
It has been reported by the Sunderland Echo that Police have now confirmed that a 23–year–old worker employed by Wensley Roofing, based in Chester-le-Street, has died whilst working as part of a Gentoo Group team on February 19.
He was flown by air ambulance to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary and until now had been described as a “serious” condition.
A spokesman from Northumbria Police said:
“We can confirm that the 23-year-old man injured after falling from a ladder on St Cuthbert’s Avenue South Shields on Wednesday February 19 has died at the RVI.
The death has been referred to the coroner.”
John Craggs, deputy chief executive of Gentoo Group told the Echo:
“We continue to work closely with the Health and Safety Executive and all other parties. We offer our sincere condolences to his family”.
Gentoo is Sunderland’s biggest landlord having taken over the city’s council housing in 2001.
