FATAL CRANE COLLAPSE IN BRAZIL CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Two die as massive mobile crane boom fails during major lift
It has been reported by Vertikal and other websites (Nov 27) that two people age 40 and 42, have died, following the collapse of a crawler crane at Sao Paulo’s Arena Corinthians stadium which is due to host the opening ceremony for the 2014 football World Cup.
A short video clip below shows the moment at which the boom of the 1,350 tonne capacity Liebherr LR11350 crane collapsed.
The crane is owned by Brazil’s largest crane company Locar and according to Vertikal the boom:
“…..appears to have gone over the back and to the side of the machine breaking the superstructure connections and landing on the roof of the stadium.
The crane which was working with suspended derrick mast counterweight was specifically brought in to install the large roof structure and was lifting the final 420 tonne section into place when the load appears to get caught up just before the boom collapses.
