HSE investigate serious injury caused by falling crane “part”
It has been reported (November 14 2013) by the Isle of Wight County Press that HSE has launched an investigation after a worker was seriously injured at the McCarthy and Stone site in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
The online news site states that the HSE enquiry follows a report that “part of a huge crane” fell on the workman at project near Sainsbury’s, Newport on Tuesday.
The man is understood to have suffered serious leg or foot injuries during the crane dismantling operation and he was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. It is believed he underwent an operation to save his limb.
A McCarthy and Stone spokesman is reported to have confirmed that the man remained in hospital and was ‘doing well’.
The spokesman added:
“We are investigating an incident at our Newport development which resulted in an injury to one of our employees. The safety of our people is paramount and the company has a robust approach to health and safety matters.”
