FATALITY: MOBILE PLANT ON HOMES SITE

Major homes project worker dies in dumper truck incident

It has been reported by The Liverpool Echo (9/08) that a construction worker has died after he was struck by as dumper truck on a homes project in Knotty Ash on Merseyside.

Emergency services were called to the Redrow ‘Summerhill Park’ housing development where 525 homes are being built. The man (said to be in his late sixties) died ater suffering very serious head injury.

The Ambulance service confirmed he was “knocked down by an on-site vehicle amid suggestions elsewhere that he was hit by a dumper truck”.

A Police and HSE investigation is now undrway and post-mortem results were expected to confirm the exact cause of the death. The man has not yet been named.

Steve Greenhalgh, regional director of Redrow Homes Lancashire, said:

“It was with great sadness I learned of this tragic incident at our construction site on Thingwall Lane. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of the man, who was working on our site as a sub-contractor.

The incident remains the subject of investigation by the relevant authorities, including the Health and Safety Executive, with whom we are co-operating.

We cannot comment on the circumstances at this stage pending the outcome of those investigations. The site will remain closed on Friday.”
