INCIDENT: ROOFWORKER SERIOUSLY INJURED

Workman left ‘fighting for life’ after roof fall

It has been reported (13 May) by the Plymouth Herald that a roofer, aged 29, has been left fighting for his life after falling from a roof.

James Hopkin, from West Hoe, is said to be in a “critical” state after falling from the roof of a house on Marine Drive, in Torpoint. It is understood that Mr Hopkin fell around 30ft whilst working for B&C Roofing Ltd.

Devon and Cornwall Police said:

“We were called to an address on Marine Drive where one man was said to be in a serious condition after falling from a roof. We were called to close a road so that the air ambulance could land and take the man to Derriford Hospital. The man suffered serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. HSE  was also informed.”

A spokesperson for the roofing company said:

“B and C Roofing Ltd take health and safety matters very seriously. We are of course very sorry for the injuries sustained by James and our thoughts are with him. There is currently a joint investigation being carried out by the police and HSE into the circumstances and we are cooperating fully with them. As the investigation is ongoing we feel any further comments to be inappropriate at this stage.”
