    FREE HSE TRAINING FOR SME OWNERS AND MANAGERS

    HSE and WWT Construction Safety and Health Awareness Days

    The Working Well Together (WWT) national campaign works with HSE to support the construction industry to reduce accidents and ill-health through a nationwide series of events

    For example, the WWT Anglia group is currently inviting participants to a FREE SHAD – Safety and Health Awareness Day – in Ipswich on 4th October 2012 which aims to provide practical, hands-on advice on the following topics:

    1. Competence – being able to do your work safely, not endanger others and meet the legal health and safety requirements;
    2. Work at Height – the biggest single cause of fatal and serious injury in the construction industry, particularly on smaller projects;
    3. Health – a) Dust – silica dust, non-silica dust and wood dust can damage the lungs and airways. b) Noise: regular, frequent exposure to high noise levels causes deafness or tinnitus c) Vibration:  vibrating hand-tools can hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) d) Manual Handling: construction has one of the highest rates of manual handling disorders; and
    4. Asbestos – asbestos-related diseases kills more people than any other single work-related cause.

    This is the ninth in the series of annual events run by the industry for the industry in the Anglia region, as part of the UK-wide Working Well Together (WWT) campaign. For further information email: frances.kennedy@hse.gsi.gov.uk
