INCIDENT: WORKMAN STRUCK BY EXCAVATOR FALLS 6M

Injured construction worker suffers “potentially life threatening” injuries

The BBC has reported that a workman suffered serious facial injuries when he fell into an excavation after being struck by an excavator on a site in Kesgrave, Ipswich. A wooden pallet now covers the excavation where fell on Saturday (20/01).

East of England Ambulance Service spokesman Gary Sanderson said the man had “serious facial injuries which were potentially life threatening”.

A police spokesperson told local reporters that:

“The man was hit by digger bucket whilst he was digging, he has sustained serious head injuries.”

One resident said:

“There are some houses being built just off Fentons Way, at the back of Reeve Gardens. People are saying that someone was using a digger and as they swung the bucket around the bucket hit the man in the face.”

The casualty was taken to Ipswich Hospital and the hazardous area response team and the Essex Air Ambulance attended. A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said HSE had been informed.
