CONSTRUCTION FATALITIES NOVEMBER 2011

Latest HSE records reveal four construction related deaths during November 

HSE publish each month the in-year details of all deaths at work under their jurisdiction including those occurring on construction projects.

This information is ‘as reported’ by third parties and does not purport to be a formal statistical release.

Our analysis of the HSE reports shows that five deaths occurred during ’construction work’ in October 2011. See below. Click on the link for our earlier coverage of the incident.

  1. 08/11/2011 Steven White – trapped in trench:
  2. 09/11/2011 James Stacey – fall from height; 
  3. 09/11/2011 Philip Evans - fall from height; and
  4. 15/11/2011 Grzegorz Sobko – fall from height.

We use these details, in conjunction with press reports etc, to establish a picture of construction project deaths each month. Subsequent HSE investigation may determine that some are not reportable under RIDDOR. 

HSE state that: ”publication of a fatality on the HSE website may be some months after the actual date of the initial incident. This is due to the verification checks that are carried out to ensure that the fatality is within HSE’s enforcement remit and if so, the correct information is subsequently published. The complex nature of some fatality investigations may mean that it can take some time to verify this information”.
