HSE seek working group members to improve health through supply chain
A request has been issued through the HSE Construction Web Community for persons wishing to become involved in the Paving, Road and Highways Supply Chain Project. The project aims to “improve control and management of health risks in the supply chain to reduce ill health in construction and maintenance of paving, roads and highways”.
A project forum event held on 6th October 2011 at Transport for London Palestra Building attracted people from across the construction supply chain to launch the project and hear plans for taking the work forward. Discussion on what was needed to deliver this work included:
- Commitment from leading figures
- Procurement process that creates a level playing field
- Applying lessons learned from improving safety
- Importance of client engagement
HSE is now looking for volunteers for the project working groups in the following areas:
- Risk Matrix: tackling guidance and training
- Health Surveillance and Monitoring: establish good practice standards
- Client and Designer: looking at cost controls, contracts and designer input to health management
Working groups will commence from mid January 2012 and you can apply to be a member by sending an e-mail to prhlaunch@hse.gsi.gov.uk by end of 30 November 2011.
