It has been reported by the BBC that a workman has died after falling from a ladder during external minor construction work on the front of a building in Luton on 19th October 2011.

The workman, who is understood to be in 40s, was working on the Yorkshire Bank building in George Street when he fell from the ladder. He was taken to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital by ambulance where he later died.

Luton police said:

“Police were called to George Street after hearing a report of a man falling from a ladder at 12.12pm. The police are making enquiries. We have cordoned off the area and it looks like this person was at work so HSE have been advised and we are making a scene preservation on their behalf. There is no suggestion of criminality involved.”

An HSE spokesperson said HSE are at the site of the incident and we will know more soon. Meanwhile, a Yorkshire Bank spokesperson confirmed there was an incident stating the deceased man was not employed by the bank.
