Completed pre-cast stairs collapsed on workman during polishing operation
It has been reported that a 37-year-old man has been crushed to death by a concrete staircase at the Workington plant of ACP Concrete. Martin McGlasson was ‘polishing’ a pre-cast concrete staircase when it collapsed and causing fatal crushing injuries. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said an investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing by the police and HSE.
Keith Denham, managing director of Thomas Armstrong, which owns ACP Concrete, said:
“This is a black day for everybody at the firm. He was polishing up the staircase and it was standing on its side and we have no idea how it has fallen over. We have never had anything like this happen to us and it is my worst nightmare if something like this happens. It is an absolutely tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family.”
