FATALITY: MOBILE CRANE OVERTURNS ON ACCESS ROAD

Mobile crane driver fatally injured on road near wind farm project site

It has been reported that the driver of a mobile crane has died after a 130-tonne mobile collapsed close to Scout Moor wind farm in Lancashire. The man was trapped after the vehicle struck an earth bank and causing it to topple on the road leading down from Scout Moor Quarry.

Police said the man had been working on the wind farm site and was on his way back down the private road off Rochdale Road, Edenfield, when the accident happened.

Lancashire Police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a joint investigation with HSE has commenced, adding:

“We are investigating an unexplained incident involving a vehicle, an 8 axle mobile crane. It has left the road at Scout Moor Quarry, come to a halt, and the driver has become trapped.”

Baldwins Crane Hire has reportedly confirmed that the deceased was a driver with the company.
