Demo workman using cherry picker crushed against steel structure
It has been reported that an investigation has been launched after James Kay, a 62-year-old demolition worker, died on a demolition project at the Sonae plant in Kirby, Merseyside whilst working from a ‘cherry picker’. He is understood to have been crushed against a metal girder.
Mr Kay was employed at the Sonae site by Andrew Connolly Demolition. The company is demolishing a section of the works damaged by a fire at the beginning of June 2011. This part of the site is under the control of the demolition company, which is the principal contractor. Andrew Connolly, managing director, said:
“We are extremely saddened by this tragic incident and our deepest sympathies are with his family. A full investigation is now under way to establish exactly what happened in the segregated area of the plant that was under our control.”
