REDUCING ILL HEALTH IN PAVING ROAD AND HIGHWAYS WORK

HSE to launch new industry supply chain project on health issues 

A new project is to be launched on paving road and highway work. Meetings between HSE and interested parties has established the key areas of activity necessary to bring about a change in awareness and behaviours in order to reduce work related ill health in this area of construction work.

The initial meeting is scheduled for 6th October 2011 at Transport for London, Palestra Building, 197 Blackfriars Road, Southwark, London SE1 8NJ.

Embedding good practice is key aim

The project aims to improve control and management of health risks in the supply chain to reduce ill health in construction and maintenance of paving, roads and highways by:

  • engaging clients, designers and coordinators to assist contractors and suppliers to embed good practice;
  • reviewing and collating information, training, tools etc providing new key case studies and guidance; and
  • driving  and promoting greater awareness and use of health surveillance to reduce disease.

HSE state that the project will be:

“managed through a steering group comprising organisations representing designers, clients and CDM coordinators. This group will oversee the work being undertaken through small working groups based on the outline deliverables in the project brief.  HSE will be seeking to secure appropriate representation of the key people able to contribute and deliver for the particular working groups at this forum event.”
