FATALITY: FALL FROM SCAFFOLD ON DOMESTIC PROJECT

Workman dies in hospital after fall during external painting works

The Wirral News has reported (July 14 2011) that a painter has died after falling some 9m from scaffolding at a house in Heswall on the Wirral.

The man has been named as Peter Cochrane, aged 50, from Manchester who was working with two others painting the gable end and rear of a domestic property. Mr Cochrane was initially said to have survived the fall but died later in hospital. An inquest has opened and Coroner’s officer Arthur Flower said:

“The deceased was employed by PPS Property Protection, based in Chester as a painter and decorator. He was on the top holding on to a hand rail 30ft up when he reached over to his left and overstretched, causing the scaffolding to move back. He was flung forward and fell, landing on the ground.”

Merseyside Police and HSE have launched a joint investigation.
