DEBATE ON DESIGNER ROLE IN CONSTRUCTION SAFETY

Access Industry Forum (AIF) publish designer conference debate online

Expo 2011 saw four of the leading trade bodies discuss ”how architects respond to their responsibility to deliver a practical design which will minimise the risk of injury to any worker trying to build it”.

The AIF hosted a debate entitled, ‘Design vs Cost vs Safety’ involving representatives from RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), APS (Association of Project Safety) and AIF (Access Industry Forum) representing the architect, the chartered surveyor, the CDM coordinator and the specialist contractor.

New BS Code for designers discussed

The debate included discussion of current development of a new British Standard, BS 8560 (Code of practice for the strategic design of building and structures incorporating safe work at height) and how the Code would help designers regarding work at height issues.

Filmed in front of an audience of safety practitioners the debate can now be watched online.

The Access Industry Forum was established in 2004 to provide a forum for all the principal trade associations and federations involved in both temporary and permanent working at height. Each organisation represents a different sector of the access industry and is a recognised leader and authority in its respective field.
