Early results from HSE refurbishment initiative reveal unsafe sites
HSE construction inspectors have been carrying out an inspection initiative during February and March aimed at stopping dangerous practices on smaller refurb projects.
Visiting Inspectors have been focusing on smaller sites concentrating on working at height, good order on site and asbestos surveys. This is the fourth year the construction inspection initiative has run and, as before, inspectors will be making unannounced visits to sites across GB.
Results from a number of areas have already been published and we can expect a nationawide account shortly. Reports from Scotland and some Northern areas are:
- Construction sites unsafe in parts of Yorkshire & the Humber
- One in five construction sites unsafe in Scotland
- 10 construction sites unsafe in Lincoln
- Fifth of Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside sites unsafe
- One in four construction sites unsafe across the Tees Valley
- Third of High Peak construction sites unsafe
- One in four construction sites unsafe in Newcastle
