WWT to hold two seminars for CDM 2007 designers on fire and health issues
Working Well Together (Anglia) is holding two separate half-day events to raise awareness of designer responsibilities under the CDM regulations. The events will take place on:
- 11th March 2011 – West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3YU and
- 18th March 2011 – South Norfolk Council, South Norfolk House, Swan Lane, Long Stratton, NR15 2XE.
The booking details can be found on the WWT website.
Robert Parker, HSE Principal Construction Inspector for the East of England, says that this half-day seminar is supported by the professional associations and HSE. CPD certificates will be provided. He added:
“Early consideration of health and safety issues can resolve many of the problems that contractors face. We all know that changes cropping up during the construction phase can be expensive. The cost of failure to plan effectively is reflected in the high levels of injury and ill-health amongst our workforce.
There is widespread concern that designers could do more to address, mitigate or eliminate risk. Some designers are not fully aware of what they need to do. Too many people with design responsibilities are not up to speed on health and safety and, as a result, fail to fully understand how to meet the standards expected of them. Designers have a vital role in improving the performance of the industry, but they need to be more proactive.
