Man trapped in Notts whilst bus collides with excavator in Argyll
There have been two incidents reported recently involving excavators. Both incidents occurred on roadworks projects.
Man trapped beneath digger
A workman has been trapped beneath an excvator on the A46 in Nottinghamshire causing serious injuries.
Ambulance crews were called to the site near Kneeton, off the A46, and he was taken to Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre by air ambulance where he was treated for serious leg injuries.
The man is believed to have been working on a road widening scheme between Bingham and Newark. The A46 was closed for a time to allow the air ambulance to land.
The Health and Safety Executive has started an investigation.
Counterweight and bus collide
A incident involving a bus took place at Hunter’s Quay, near to the Dunoon Ferry terminal. Fortunately there was only one passenger aboard the bus along with the driver, and neither was injured.
The excavator counterweight and the bus collided as the bus passed by the works. Three windows were broken and four double seats damaged.
Dougie Buchanan, a bus driver of 12 years experience, said:
“I pass these roadworks every day and always keep an eye open for the men working. I thought I was past the counterweight when it hit the bus. I got a fright because I didn’t know what had happened.
“I’m just glad the bus didn’t have more people on it. That was only because the holiday village is quiet just now.”
