INCIDENT: CONCRETE PUMPING OPERATION

Concrete pumping unit topples on new homes project in Kent

Kentonline has reported that a concrete pumping unit was involved in an incident on a building site in Whitstable on Friday 21st January.

The ground beneath outriggers failed to support the imposed load leaving the unit in a precarious position between the busy road and the site. It is reported that the incident happened at lunchtime when heavy rain was falling over east Kent.

The site manager, who did not want to be named, said:

“This ground was frozen solid a little while ago and we did exactly the same operation and it was fine.

But the ground has since then been turned muddy. It’s not a difficult job to get it straightened up – it’s just annoying.”

We understand that the site is adjacent to the Whitstable to London railway line where Groombridge Properties is building three new homes.
