FITTING FUNERAL FOR DEVOTED DIGGER DRIVER

Excavator driver carried to final resting place in the machine he loved

The Carlisle News and Star has reported on how 64-year-old Des Young was granted his dying wish – to be carried to his final resting place in the excavator he loved.

Watched by grieving friends and relatives, Des’s coffin was gently carried on the forks of a digger to the entrance of Carlisle Crematorium.

His daughter Stehanie said:

“He loved driving his digger and he was brilliant at it. They’re such powerful machines and he loved working with them. He always had a reputation as somebody who was good with them.

He was so good with them he could make them dance. My dad started his own business driving his digger 15 years ago and he just loved going to work.”
