Workman critical after apparent MEWP trapping incident on Brisbane site
A construction worker seriously injured on a major Brisbane project has been revived on site and rushed to hospital. He is now reported to be in a critical condition. Braedon Webber, 25, is in an induced coma in Royal Brisbane Hospital.
The press reports suggests the incident may have occurred when he was trapped between the mobile elevating work platform he was using and a concrete beam. The incident occured on what is described as the ’The Laing O’Rourke tower’ in Albert Street, Brisbane.
Mr Webber’s brother who worked at the site said:
‘‘He was working on an elevated work platform and he was manoeuvring that up a ramp to a job on platform one and something has happened and he’s been crushed between the [equipment] and a concrete beam on the roof. There could have been something wrong with the elevated work platform or something happened to him, it’s hard to say at this stage.”

This tragic incident highlights the recent publication of UK guidance on Best Practice Guidance for MEWPs: Avoiding trapping / crushing injuries to people in the platform, published by the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) on behalf of the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group.
The guidance is to help the construction industry reduce the risk of trapping and crushing injuries to people working in mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
