Waste management firm on trial over the death of a young road cleaner

The Dartford Messenger reports that Veolia Environmental Services UK Ltd is currently on trial at Maidstone Crown Court following the death of 20 year-old Damian Griffiths during litter picking on the A228 dual carriageway. The vehicle used was struck from behind by a lorry. 

Veolia, of Pentonville Road, Islington, North London, deny failing to ensure the health and safety and welfare of employees and causing another risk of health and safety. The trial continues.

The jury has returned unanimous guilty verdicts and Judge Philip Statman adjourned sentence until September 2010.
