Man rescued from height by fire crews after trusses tumble on new homes site
The Mercury has reported that a homes project worker has been hospitalised after roof trusses collapsed on a Dudley construction project on 2 August 2010 in the West Midlands.
It is understood that a number of roof trusses collapsed on to the workman at the eaves level platform on a block of new homes. The name of the principal contractor is not known.
The workman needed to be rescued from the scaffold by the emergency services.
He was treated for facial, knee and back injuries and transferred to a local hospital.
Comment
The number of fatal and serious injuries has fallen on home build projects during the last 2 years.
This incident provides a timely warning to all home builders that as activity levels increase greater vigilance will be required.
It also highlights the importance of thinking about need for easy and timely evacuation and rescue in an emergency when selecting work equipment for use in work at height.
