Barratt Homes highlight hazards to youngsters as holiday looms
Home builder Barratt North East is warning youngsters to stay away from construction sites during the upcoming school holidays.
Barratt holds regular safety talks and site visits for schools close to where it is building to highlight the hazards of playing on or near building sites.
Tom Proctor, Construction Director at Barratt North East said:
“We have active sites across the region, and have recently started work on a number of new developments. Youngsters are often on the lookout for somewhere new and exciting to play, but construction sites are not adventure playgrounds.
Our construction teams watch out for youngsters while they are working and we secure our sites when we finish for the day. But we also ask parents to make sure they know where their children are during the holiday time.”
HSE advise builders to take three key steps:
- provide good security fencing around construction sites
- if sites are being shut down remove anything that might make it easier for children to explore the site e.g. ladders and even scaffolding.
- regularly revisit sites to check the fencing is still secure.
