Coroners inquest considers fatal fall of concrete slab on building site
An inquest has been shown the final moments before a 4 tonne concrete slab fell on to carpenter Philip Hames on a building site in Bath in November 2007.
A CCTV camera at the University of Bath was recording a 24hr video diary of the student accommodation construction project.
The footage showed Mr Hames working on the top floor of the building. He descended the ladder to the floor below where part of the concrete roof of a corridor collapsed.
A sub-contractors had installed the concrete panel three days previously. Report.
Propping arrangements considered
The inquest heard evidence as regards the propping arrangements.
A co-worker told the jury that he and Mr Hames had been “securing a prop to hold a plank of wood in place over the expansion joint gap when the ceiling collapsed”.
He denied that he and Mr Hames moved the props.
The hearing continues.
