FALLING CONCRETE BLOCK HITS MOTHER AND SON

Block falls causing injury during lifting operation with crane on homes site

A mother and son narrowly avoided serious injury when a concrete block fell from a crane striking them both with a ‘glancing blow’ as they passed along pavement under the Watkin Jones housing development in Chester.

It is reported that the falling block struck the top of the site hoarding and then ”bounced onto the pavement”.

The son was struck on his leg and his mother incurred injury to ankle. Both were taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The injured woman said: “a couple of inches the other way and I don’t like to think about it. If it had hit us on the head, God knows what would have happened.”

Berwyn Evans MD of Watkin Jones Homes, said: “We very much regret that this unfortunate accident happened, and wish Louis a full and speedy recovery. “As a company we are fully committed to health and safety but we will be carrying out a full investigation into the case.”
