Construction sector selected for HSE training initiative
There is evidence that involving the workforce is fundamental to good health and safety performance, and good for business.
HSE is therefore offering two new subsidised health and safety training courses designed to either: (1) help organisations get started with worker involvement; or (2) improve their existing arrangements for involving workers.
Construction is a target sector for worker training
This new HSE part-funded two-day (or equivalent) course is designed to increase health and safety knowledge and skills and is particularly aimed at non-unionised, small to medium sized organisations in the following types of workplace:
- construction sites;
- factory, e.g. a motor vehicle repair shop; and
- ‘on the move’, e.g. road haulage.
The training will include managing health and safety and people skills to help negotiate change to manage health and safety in a positive way.
Follow on support training will be provided for participants. Courses may be delivered on site or at an open venue.
Joint training for managers/supervisors and employee reps
This further course brings managers/supervisors together with employee H&S representatives to identify practical improvements.
The training is designed to “help organisations build genuine partnerships between management and the workforce based on trust, respect and co-operation.”
Courses cover topics such as managing stress, combined risk assessment and joint inspections to establish a shared perspective towards health and safety issues in the workplace.
The courses help to establish a shared perspective with employees to take practical steps to making improvements in your workplace.
