Workman dies on Hampshire Rose Bowl cricket ground project
A construction worker has died at Hampshire Rose Bowl cricket ground. Police have named the man as Philip Carsley from North Yorkshire.
It is believed he was struck by a concrete block that fell during lifting operations at the site near Southampton.
Emergency team efforts fail to save workman
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and various rapid response teams attended but were unable to save him. He died at the scene.
A police spokesman said: “Hampshire police and the HSE have launched an inquiry following the death of a construction worker. The dead man was working on the construction of a new stand.”
The Rose Bowl was closed following the incident and a number of functions cancelled. McAleer & Rushe from Northern Ireland is understood to be the principal contractor on the £48m project.
