LORRY DRIVER DIES IN TIPPER INCIDENT

Tipper lorry overturns killing driver during offloading in lay-by

A father of three has died after his lorry overturned in a lay-by in North Wales.

The driver was operating a Scania tipper vehicle when it overturned whilst off-loading materials for road repairs in a lay-by on the A494 near Ruthin. The workman, aged 48 from Dwygyfylchi, was taken to Wrexham Maelor hospital with serious head injuries from which he subsequently died.

The man worked for local haulage company, Roland Young, whose Transport Manager said: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our thoughts are with Maurice’s wife and family. The incident is being investigated both internally and externally so we can not say anymore at this time.”

Comment: There are a number of factors that are relevant to the stability of tipper lorries.
