INDIAN BUILDING COLLAPSE LEAVES SIX DEAD

Major ’illegal’ retail building collapses during refurbishment work

The Times of India has reported that six workers have died and others injured when the City Shopping Centre in Faridabad, India, collapsed during major renovation work on the top floor.

It is believed that the work may have compromised the structure and that a “heavy generator installed on the rooftop of the 25-year-old building could have been another trigger for the collapse.”

The dead workers were all working on the top floor. The loss of life could have been greater had the incident occurred at times when the store sees huge footfalls.
