Foundations to be investigated and crane tests carried out
It is reported by Contract Journal that HSE has ‘siezed’ the Wolff 500 crane that collapsed on Merseyside in July 2009 and that ”chemical, metallurgical and structural tests” are scheduled in the coming months.
The crane foundations have remained undisturbed and HSE is planning to excavate and investigate further.
Bowmer and Kirkland is said to have confirmed that two different cranes (Wolf 100 and Wolf 500) were planned to be erected on the foundations adding: “Investigations to date have confirmed that the tower crane base was designed and built around the use of a Wolff 500B luffing crane and the loadings, base and tower supplied for the Wolff 500B crane.”
