Essential construction safety guides now free in pdf format
HSE is making some 230 publications free to download to improve access to important information, especially for smaller businesses.
Some 50 or so of the 230 publications are now available in a fully accessible ‘printer friendly’ PDF format through the HSE website. The other 180 PDFs will be converted to the ‘printer friendly’ format by the end of March 2010.
Visitors to the HSE website are offered the options of buying the publication or downloading the PDF. The content of the online and hard copy versions will be identical in substance, if not in form. This means that both the online and hard copy versions will have an identical status in the event of any proceedings.
Copyright status on the publications has also been amended to encourage re-use – organisations will no longer have to pay for licensing to reproduce contents.
Key construction industry guidance now available in pdf format include:
- Health and Safety in Construction - a general guide
- CDM 2007 - Regulations and Approved Code
- Roofwork – comprehensive guidance HSG33
- Transport - safety in use of vehicles on site
- Public Protection - guidance on precautions for public safety
- Underground Services - steps required to avoid
- Lifting Operations - safe use of cranes etc.
Comment: This is an excellent development, particularly from the smaller business. Easy access to information on the required standard of control for key construction hazards is the first step to taking effective action.
