Miraculous escape after fall into shaft on university building project

The Bucks Free Press has reported an incident at a £48m “Gateway” university building project in High Wycombe, Bucks.

A workman fell some 20ft down a lift shaft. It is reported that the only injury suffered was a broken leg. The new build started in January 2008 and includes dance studios plus sports and music facilities.

A spokesperson for BAM Construction confirmed that: “a sub contractor fell six metres down a lift shaft on Friday and broke their leg. We have a full investigation under way to determine what happened and proper instructions have been given to HSE.”
