TRENCH MACHINERY DEATH

Workman dies when crushed by machinery during gas main works

The Wiltshire Times has reported the death of a man “crushed by a digger” whilst laying a new gas main. The accident occured in the town of Box, Wiltshire on 30 July 2009.

The workman was involved in trenching operations at the time of the accident. It is suggested that the death may have occured when the man was trapped by moving parts of the trenching machine rather than being struck by the moving vehicle.

Police have identified the workman as 28-year-old Stuart Leigh Meakin who lived in Gloucester. An HSE / Wiltshire Police investigation is underway.
