Collapsed bridge was subject to repairs at time of fatal incident
A bridge under construction has collapsed in New Delhi killing six persons injuring 13 others when a supporting pillar failed under load.
Three of the dead were workers and others are trapped under the structure. Delhi Metro are reported to have attributed the accident to a “problem in the design” of the pillar which was being rectified.
A construction worker is reported to have said ”There were cracks in the pillar and we had warned the contractor and officials – but they paid no heed.”
