Overloaded dumper was driven by insufficiently trained operator
PB Formworks of Northern Ireland has been fined £35k after a dumper driver had to have a leg amputated. The truck he was operating overturned trapping his lower limbs.
His injuries had a ”devastating effect” since in addition to losing a leg the he sustained serious crush injuries. The dumper was overloaded. The injured man had been employed for ten days when the accident happened and the company accepted his training was insufficient.
The sentencing judge said it was “an accident waiting to happen” and was “avoidable.” He added “I am assured PB Formworks have learned their lesson taken steps to address their shortcomings.”
