Free medical checks raise the standard for 2012 and beyond
Lawrence Waterman, Olympic Delivery Authority’s (ODA) head of health and safety says the pre-employment checks undertaken on the 4,500 site workforce have shown that many ”were not very well plugged into the NHS”.
The checks highlighted a reluctance of male workrers to visit the doctor. Undiagnosed conditions e.g. heart problems and diabetes were identified during the ODA health screening.
Occupational health services at the 2012 site include: health clinics for men and women, nutritional and hydration advice and specific medical checks for high risk jobs.
Waterman said: ”To recruit enough young people and keep the industry going requires the industry to improve its overall image. We think the London 2012 site is seen by our workers and the trade unions as a very good place to join or start career in the industry. It demonstrates that the industry is moving with the times and is capable of providing good employment for people, which is important to young people,”
