STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE INCIDENTS

Recent structural collapses in Bangkok, London and Derbyshire

Bangkok - a cinema under construction in the Nonthaburi district has collapsed leaving three people dead and four others injured. It understood that the second floor of the seven-storey building failed. Construction is reported to have been 60% complete and the builder was “rushing to finish the job before the contract deadline.”

London – part of a building has collapsed on a north London street scattering debris on the highway and narrowly missing pedestrians and cars. The emergency services closed the road and made the scene safe.

One witness said: ”I was standing outside the shop across the road getting ready to cross the road and it just came down really quickly. It could easily have been a disaster.” The reason for the collapse is under investigation.

Derbyshire – three people have been injured at a music festival after the stage collapsed. It is reported that “strong winds lifted part of the roof off the stage”. Others were treated for shock and HSE has opened a preliminary inquiry.
