UNREGISTERED GAS FITTER IMPRISONED

Plumber jailed for the second time after carrying out gas work

Thomas Dalton, aged 39 of Harrogate, has been jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to two breaches of the HSW Act). The court heard that Thomas Dalton, a self-employed plumber, was not a registered as a gas installer and was not competent to carry out work on gas fittings.

He was imprisoned for 3 months in 2005 after breaching a prohibition notice. Despite serving this sentence he breached the prohibition again in 2007 by installing a gas boiler in a way that put lives at risk from carbon monoxide.

HSE Inspector Kate Dixon said: “Thomas Dalton has repeatedly put lives at risk by carrying out gas work without the proper accreditation or training, and whilst being prohibited from such work. The HSE wants to advise anyone who has had gas work carried out by this man since 2005, that they should arrange for a Gas Safe registered installer to check his work to make sure its safe.”
