Building collapse during refurb project lands director in court
Bukan Singh Hothi, of Leicester, has been ordered to pay over £17k in fines and prosecution costs after pleading guilty to breaching the HSW Act during his role as director of the developer, 426 Leicester Ltd.
The prosecution follows an incident January 2007 when a building collapsed whilst undergoing refurbishment.
HSE Construction Inspector Cliff Seymour said: the building ”was being converted into four residential units. It had been subject to fire damage and become derelict.”
He added: “this case illustrates the importance of all risks being properly assessed so that appropriate working practices can be put in place to ensure that everyone is safe.”
