Relaunched CPA website includes free plant safety guides
The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) represents over 1,500 companies in the construction plant hire sector and the CPA Chief Executive, Colin Wood, currently chairs the industry Plant Safety Group.
The CPA have now relaunched their website with a new look and the Safety & Technical Guidance section contains useful free leaflets or booklets on specific plant related safety topics. Most of the guidance has been developed in consultation with HSE. In addition, a great deal of information of safe use of Tower Cranes is available for free download. The guidance includes:
- Lifting Operations in Construction when Using Excavators - precautions and procedures that should be taken when planning and carrying out lifting operations with excavators and other earth moving equipment;
- Warning on the Dangers of Lifting of Persons Using Hydraulic Excavators - to be read in conjuction with the above;
- Overturning of Forklift Trucks - information and advice as applied to both trucks with vertical masts and others fitted with ROPS such as rough terrain telescopic handlers;
- All Round Visibility on Mobile Plant - outlines driver visibility problems and solutions available in order to select suitable plant;
- Selection of Proprietary Shoring Equipment - describes the most common ground support equipment and gives guidance on its applications with quick reference chart on the correct selection of shoring equipment;
- Risk Assessment for Shoring and Piling Operations - contains a generic risk assessment in relation to the planning and executing excavation and shoring operations and assists the user of shoring equipment to produce site specific risk assessments;
- Safeguarding Requirements for Landing Gates of Goods only Construction Hoists - guidance on compliance with LOLER 1998, Regulation 6(2) relating to full height and half height landing gates on construction goods-only hoists.
