MISSING EARTH CAUSES SCAFFOLDER DEATH

Council fined after scaffolder electrocuted by faulty light 

London Local Authority, Camden Council has been fined £40k and ordered to pay £16k in prosecution costs after a father of three was electrocuted when he came into contact the live metal casing of a faulty security light while working on a housing estate. Ralph Kennedy, a 24-year-old scaffolder died instantly as he collapsed clutching his arm when working on the Mayford estate in North London.

Investigation found the earth cable to the light had been cut, possibly to stop the light flickering. Camden Council admitted breaching legislation by failing in its duty to inspect light fittings on the estate.
