‘Trojan Horse’ messages to influence awareness and behaviour
Research sponsored by HSE studied ’Trojan Horse’ messages that are applied to construction components and equipment so the worker will see the messages just as they are about to carry out a task. The researchers concluded that such messages produce high levels of awareness amoung construction site workers and are capable of effecting positive behavioural change in a construction setting.
The Trojan Horse Safety Messages developed by the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) include a range of eye-catching pictorial messages on brightly coloured backgrounds. The Trojan Horse website sponsors include HSE, ConstructionSkills and Morgan Sindall.
Comment: Feedback we have received from the users of these message has been very positive. The messages and method of delivery are simple and low cost. Lets hope this approach can be shown to have a long term impact on behaviour.
