Log cabin erection contractor fined after ladder fall injury
Scandinavian Log Cabins Direct Ltd, of Lincolnshire, is to pay £1k in fines and costs after a workman fell from a ladder. Raymond Martin, aged 48 year, had been working on a tower scaffold constructing a log cabin. However, during a break, the scaffolded area was removed, so the work was completed using a ladder which was not tied, secured or footed. The ladder slipped and he fell 3m to a concrete floor, sustaining serious injuries.
HSE inspector Judith McNulty-Green said: “This incident could easily have been avoided if the company had done a proper risk assessment to ensure adequate safety measures were in place for people working at height, including planning and supervising this work. None of these things happened.”
