Charges follow carbon monoxide death at refurbished hotel
Jonathan Mingo, 35, and Philip Hodge, 47, from Cornwall have been charged with manslaughter and health and safety offences following the death of hotel resident. Both men were bailed by Liskeard magistrates to appear at Truro Crown Court in June 2009.
The charges come at the conclusion of an investigation by Devon and Cornwall police, HSE and Restormel Borough Council and arise from the death Fred Jackson, from Llanelli, South Wales, who was found dead at the Great Western Hotel in Newquay in April 2008. Mr Jackson died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning some six weeks after a five-month refurbishment of the hotel. It is understood that the defendants were carrying out work at the hotel at the time.
