Warrant issued for arrest of scaffolding contractor director
McAleer & Rushe Ltd have pleaded guilty to charges that they failed to ensure the safety of employees and others contrary to HSW Act Sections 2 and 3. The offences were committed at the Jurys Inn Hotel, Milton Keynes, construction project when a major scaffold collapsed and a workman on the scaffold at the time died some days later in hospital. The company were committed to the Crown Court for sentence later this year.
Lee Smith Carpentry Limited and NNM Scaffolding Limited also faced charges arising from the incident but failed to enter pleas at this stage. The magistrates also declined jurisdiction in these cases and a hearing to decide upon committal to the crown court will take place on 21 April 2009 in Milton Keynes.
Mr John King a director of North Notts Scaffolding Ltd also faced charges but failed to appear in court and a warrant was to be issued for his arrest.
