Lack of warning signs results in fatal injury on Northern Ireland road
McNicholas Construction Services Limited has been fined £65k at Ballymena Crown Court following the death of a construction worker who was struck by a vehicle during roadworks. The court was told that warning signs were missing along with other necessary precautions. Northern Ireland HSE Deputy CEO Kevin Toner said that contractors must provide proper precautions including “adequate signage, warnings and, where required, road closures in order to provide safety to all persons at work on or near roads”.
Comments: Deaths of workers on roads in UK have reduced significantly during the last 3 years as a result of contractor action and work by the regulators to enforce speed limits through roadworks.
